BMC to give awards for cleanliness in various categories
Mumbai, Apr 17 (UNI) In order to promote cleanliness in the city, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will soon constitute awards for cleanliness in 19 different categories.
Speaking to reporters here today, additional municipal commissioner R A Rajiv said ''The awardees will be given appreciation certificates and cash prizes to encourage people in keeping cleanliness.'' The awards will be judged by former Mumbai Mayor and Civic chief, who will select the best in each category in the various civic wards. The categories in which the awards will be presented include BMC schools, gardens, hospitals, societies, police stations, railway stations, administrative and electoral wards.
The corporator of the adjudged cleanest electoral ward will receive an additional development fund of Rs 10 lakh to be utilised in the ward.
''The idea is to encourage people to keep their surroundings clean and the awardee's photograph or name will prominently feature in the premises for a year,'' said Rajiv.
The cleanest administrative ward will get Rs one lakh in prize while the cleanest zone will get Rs 2 lakh as an incentive.
The prize amount for cleanliness will vary from Rs 10,000 to Rs 10 lakh in various categories, in addition to the certificates and appreciation.
