1,000 km to be converted into broad gauge
New Delhi, Apr 17 (UNI) Minister of State for Railways R Velu today told the Lok Sabha that the government proposes to convert 1,000 km into broad gauge during the Eleventh Plan.
Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour, Mr Velu said this will be out of the 13,600 km of meter gauge and narrow gauge lines.
Mr Velu said against the original target of gauge conversion of 2,365 km, 4,289 km were converted during the Tenth Plan.
The targets during the Plan period were fixed yearwise, as per the progress of projects and availability of resources.
The Minister said the funds for gauge conversion projects have been increased and some of the projects are being funded through internal generation.
