Vice-Admiral inaugurates Ship Handling Simulator

Visakhapatnam, Apr 16 (UNI) Vice-Admiral Raman Prem Suthan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Naval Command (ENC), today inaugurated a Ship Handling Simulator (SHS) in the maritime warfare centre here.

The Simulator would be used to train naval officers, in the executive branch, in the complex procedures of entering and leaving different harbours in the country.

The crew would also be trained to manoeuvre their ships, he added.

The SHS, a state-of-the-art equipment, was indigenously developed and installed by Applied Research International, New Delhi.

The current simulator was one in a series of multiple simulators procured by the Indian Navy for imparting quality realistic training while cutting costs through the use of high-end technology, with the added advantage of risk removal.

Vice-Admiral Suthan hailed it as a major proactive step towards fleet training considering the continuous rise in ship operating costs, time and effort involved in imparting similar training in the sea.
