UML quits Nepal govt; Koirala urges it to reconsider its decision

Kathmandu, Apr 16 : After its defeat in the Constituent Assembly elections, the Communist Party of Nepal-United Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) on Wednesday quit the Girija Prasad Koirala Government

All seven UML ministers, including two state ministers submitted their resignations to Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala.

In a joint resignation letter, the ministers stated that their party decided to pull out of the government to honour the people's verdict.

Foreign minister Sahana Pradhan, education minister Pradeep Nepal, tourism minister Prithvi Subba Gurung, general administration minister Ram Chandra Yadav, agriculture and cooperatives minister Chhabilal Biswokarma and state ministers Mohan Singh Rathour and Nagendra Prasad Chaudhary had represented the UML in the Koirala-led government.

Koirala is reported to have asked the UML to reconsider its decision to quit the government "so soon".

Earlier in the day, UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal met Koirala and discussed the post-election scenario, nepalnews.com reported.
