Mizoram lawyers dissatisfied over decrease in fund allocation

Aizawl, Apr 16 (UNI) A sharp decrease in fund allocation for professional services in the Mizoram Law and Judicial department has caused dissatisfaction among the Mizoram Bar Association.

The fund allocation under the Defence Pleader (Appointment and Fees) Rules, 1976, to Aizawl bench of Gauhati High Court bench and Civil and Sessions courts in Aizawl and other districts had been reduced from Rs 9.20 lakh in the 2007-08 budget to Rs 3.20 lakh in this year's budget, the lawyers pointed out.

''Even when Rs 9.20 lakh was not sufficient, a reduction to Rs 3.20 lakh is unjustified,'' president of the Bar Association C Lalramzauva said.

He alleged that the state government was not concerned about the poor people who could not afford a lawyer.
