Whirlpool to be No. 1 player in home appliances

New Delhi, Apr 15: Riding on a 20 per cent growth rate, leading home appliances company Whirlpool Corporation today said it plans to become the number one player in the country by 2010.

''We expect to notch up a 25 per cent market share in the refrigerator category, 20 per cent in the washing machine segment and 10 per cent each in the microwave oven, air conditioner and water purifier category this year,'' Whirlpool India Ltd Managing Director Arvind Uppal said. The company has a market share of 23 per cent, 16 per cent and six per cent in the refrigerator, washing machine and microwave oven category respectively.

The company had reported a turnover of about Rs 1,500 crore last year.
