Kerala: TVM Division creates record in earnings

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 15: The Thiruvananthapuram Division of the Southern Railway has recorded the highest-ever earnings of Rs 611 crore during the financial year 2007-08. It had become the only Division in the Southern Railway to exceed the targets fixed by the Railway Board as well as to exceed the earning of previous year by 21 per cent, a release from the Southern Railway here said.

The earnings, includes Rs 444 crore from passenger services, Rs 120 crore from freight services and Rs 47 crore through other miscellaneous services.

At the railway week celebrations held at the Southern Railway headquarters in Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram Division had been honoured with the General Manager's prestigious 'Operating shield,' Commercial shield,' 'Best Track maintined Division,' 'Best Publicity earnings,' Best maintained catering outlet on Southern Railway and the highest scrap earnings shield.

Besides this, several officers of the Division had been selected by the Railway Board for the prestigious Railway Minister's award.

The awards would be distributed to them on April 16 at Mumbai. The Southern Railway had fixed a target of about 2.7 million tonnes for the current year in freight movement and the Thiruvananthapuram Division was gearing up to achieve the target.

In the passenger amenity front in the last financial year the Division had spend Rs 11 crore. The 53th railway week celebrations of Thiruvananthapuram Division would be held on April 16, the release added.
