Temporary doc on one-day token strike

Mumbai, Apr 15 (UNI) About 500 members of Maharashtra State Gazatted Medical Officer Association (MSGOA) today held a one-day token strike at Azad Maidan here demanding their absorption as permanent doctors in the government run hospitals.

The doctors have been placed on temporary basis for three to 15 years. According to these doctors, over a decade, only two Maharashtra Public Services Commission Exams (MPSE) have been conducted. They were placed on temporary basis for 11 months and got renewed every time. Few doctors were absorbed by government in the year 1984 and 1994, and now they demand the similar absorption.

MSGOA Joint Secretary Ulhas Vesave said, ''According to Government resolution, doctors can be placed on temporary basis even for 50 years but we cannot stay on this basis. This is the one-day token strike. If our demand is unheard we would go on complete strike on May 2 which will lead to total paralysis of the medical services in the state run hospitals.
