Rs 1.73 cr worth pulses seized, drive against hoarders

Pune, Apr 15 (UNI) Pulses worth Rs 1.73 crore were seized by the officials of the district Food Supply Department after a raid conducted on two godowns, owned by a foodgrains wholeseller here, as part of the state government's move to curb hoarding of essential commodities.

The officials, who raided Kishore Kumar Kanani's godowns yesterday, seized 5,659.99 quintals of channa dal and 342 quintals of matki worth Rs 1.61 crore from his godown at Undri Pisoli, District Supply Officer Snehal Barga said in a release.

From another godown owned by the accused, the officers seized 158 quintals of channa dal, 52 quintals of tur dal, 106 quintals of gram dal and 81.60 quintals of tukda channa, worth Rs 11.45 lakh approximately, Ms Barga added.

Cases have been filed against Kanani, under Essential Commodities Act at the Swargate and Haveli Police Station in the city.
