Maharashtra: Opp walks out on wheat import issue

Mumbai, Apr 15: The entire Opposition today staged a walk out in the Maharashtra Assembly during question hour protesting against import of low quality wheat. State Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said 1,773 tonne of imported wheat had been disposed off after it was found to be of inferior quality.

Members of Opposition, including leader of Opposition Ramdas Kadam and Ganpatrao Deshmukh (PWP), asked why the government did not return low quality, saving Government funds. Mr Deshmukh said the wheat was supplied by the Food Corporation of India and added that the Government immediately disposed it of when it was found to be of inferior quality.
