Visakhapatnam, Apr 15 (UNI) Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command Vice Admiral Raman Prem Suthan today inaugurated the two-day seminar-cum-exhibition on Indigenisation, 'INDSEM 2008' here.

The seminar, with the central theme 'New Horizons and Approaches for Indigenisation', was aimed at focusing on sustained efforts towards indigenisation by the Indian Navy in general and the Eastern Naval Command in particular.

Hosted by Indian Navy's premier facility, the Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, the mega event would provide a platform for interaction between the Navy and the Indian industry, and for expanding and deepening the scope and extent of the indigenisation program. The exhibition would showcase products successfully indigenised by the industry and items that were viable and proposed for indigenisation in the near future.

The Indian Navy thus far had played a leading role in achieving self-reliance through indigenisation of its key machinery components. Special emphasis towards indigenous design and development of equipment and system components through sustained partnership with public and private industry had paid rich dividends in the recent years.

The seminar was intended to catalyse interaction between operators, maintainers, repair agencies and the industry and bring about clear understanding of Navy's requirements and the capabilities of Indian Industry. It would provide an effective opportunity for interested organisations to promote their products and services to a wide range of participating agencies.

INDSEM-08 exhibition had over 50 stalls including those of reputed firms like the KPCL, HPCL, L and T, ABB and Symtronics Automation Limited and would be attended by over 250 delegates, including high ranking officers from the Navy, Defence Research and Development Organisation and senior executives of private and public sector companies from across the country.

Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) National Committee on Defence Chairman Atul Kirloskar delivered the keynote address at the seminar.
