Maharashtra: Houses damaged in stone pelting

Kolhapur, Apr 15: Tension prevailed at Nave-Pargaon in Hatkanangale tehsil of the district after a mob went on the rampage pelting stones at houses and vehicles, and injuring ten people.

According to police here today, a procession was carried out here last night to mark the birth anniversary Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. At the end of the procession, a group of people pelted stones on the houses of upper caste people and the damaged the vehicles parked in front of their houses. As the news spread, the situation became tense as people from upper class and lower class began clashing in the area, police said.

Police reached the spot and resorted to a mild lathi-charge to disperse the mob and bring the situation under control. Ten persons were injured in the stone pelting incident and five persons have been taken into custody in this connection, police added.
