Fishermen to be given compensation package

Mumbai, Apr 15 (UNI) Fishermen in Maharashtra, faced with shortage of fish, will soon get a compensation package before the conclusion of the ongoing Budget session.

Minister for Dairy development Anees Ahmed said in the legislative council that the government will soon discuss the nature of the compensation.

He said the proposal in this regard had been sent to the Centre to waive the loans of fishermen like in the case of farmers and hoped it would be favourably considered.

Ahmed also announced that there was a proposal to set up a fishery university in Ratnagiri. He said planning commission member Bhalchandra Mungekar will head a study committee on the same, which will submit a report within two months.
