Centre holds meeting on Olympic torch relay security arrangements

New Delhi, Apr 15 : The Union Home Ministry on Tuesday held a high-level meeting to review the security arrangements for the Olympic torch relay run here on April 17.

The high-level meeting was attended by Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta, Delhi Police chief Y S Dadwal, Indian Olympic Association General Secretary Randhir Singh and senior Intelligence and Home Ministry officials.

After the meeting, the officials expressed confidence that the event would pass off peacefully and all security concerns have been addressed.

The Delhi Police has tightened security arrangements around the relay torch relay route from Sansad Marg to the National Stadium.

National Security Guards will guard the Olympic torch during its three-kilometer relay. China had earlier requested that its elite China Red Guards commandos be allowed to accompany the flame, but India turned it down. he Olympic Torch relay in London, Paris and San Francisco has been disrupted by Tibetan protestors.

The Tibetans voicing their angst against the Chinese suppression, maintain that the Olympics scheduled to begin in Beijing on August 8 should not be held in China.
