Bihar to launch cultural calendar for 2008-09
Patna, Apr 15 (UNI) The Bihar government has decided to launch cultural calendar for the year 2008-09.
Official sources said here today that the cultural calendar would be launched jointely by the Art and Culture and Tourism departments to promote tourism in the state by promoting regional culture.
The sources maintained the government had decided to revive the historical traditions of Vaishali, belonging to ancient past. In fact, the state culture department, in association with the tourism department, was set to host ''Vaishali Mahotsav'' from April 18 at Vishalgarh in the district to revive age old tradition. It would be organised on a regular basis, sources said.
The sources further informed that two new festivals have been added to the list of annual cultural calendar 2008-09, which would be organised at Vikarmshila(the site of famous Vikramshila University of eary medieval period) and Kesariya, another historical site in East Champaran district of North Bihar on the Indo-Nepal border.
All the cultural activities would be organised at the historical sites in Bihar as an annual feature to promote tourism by popularising such acitivities in the state, sources added.
