APCC chalks out programme to strengthen party

Hyderabad, Apr 15: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President D Srinivas today said he had chalked out various programmes in coordination with party leaders to strengthen the Congress, while maintaining good relations with friendly parties in the State.

Participating in a meet-the-press programme organised by the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists here, he said the party high command had entrusted a big responsibility with him as the party chief in view of the election year.

Mr Srinivas said he had reviewed the situation with the frontal organisations like State Youth Congress, Mahila Congress, National Students Union of India and service organisations like BC, SC and Minority cells of the party.

He said the party at the mandal level would send details of farmers, who were benefitted by the Centre's farm loan waiver to the tune of Rs 60,000 crore, to the Centre.

Maintaining that it was bad on the part of some party leaders to belittle the Rs 2 per kg rice scheme meant to help the poor people, the Congress leader said the APCC had suggested to Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to take stern action against those trying to mislead the people about the scheme.

He also directed the party cadre to conduct door-to-door visits to know the problems of the people so that it could be conveyed to the Government. Party cadre from the mandal and district level should actively participate in the ongoing revision of voters list, and ensure inclusion of names of eligible persons.
