Website on cotton pests launched in Punjab

Ludhiana, Apr 14 (UNI) A website on Decision Support System (DSS) for cotton pests of Punjab (www.pauipmcottondss.com) was launched today at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU).

The site was launched by Dr N S Malhi, Director Extension Education, PAU, Dr K C Jain, Additional Director General, ICAR, New Delhi and Dr B M Khadi, Director, CICR, Nagpur.

According to the PAU Vice-Chancellor, Dr Manjit Singh Kang, DSS would prove to be a boon for the farmers as it would bridge the gap between the scientists and the farmers. Noteworthy feature of this web based DSS is that it would be available in Punjabi which could be useful for farmers to comprehend, he said.

Dr Malhi mentioned that dissemination of technology is a challenge for scientists and extension personnels for ensuring sustainable cotton production. With fast changing technology, it is important to disseminate the information quickly for which information based system prove useful, he added.
