No impact of Yoga, another soldier commit suicide in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 14 (UNI) Despite the introduction of yoga and art of Living among security forces engaged in counter-insurgency operations in the Kashmir valley to help them comeout stress, a soldier shot himself dead in north Kashmir early today.

Officials sources said sepoy of 19 Infantry division, B Nair, resident of Kerala, shot himself with his service weapon at an Army camp at Baramulla.

Nair died before he could be shifted to hospital.

It is not immediately known why he took this extreme step.

This was the second such incident in the valley during the past 24 hours. Yesterday a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan Sanjay Nikam, a constable of 68 battalion shot himself with his service weapon at Gulmarg in north Kashmir.

He was admitted to hospital in a critical condition.

Concerned over the increasing number of suicides among the security forces engaged in counter-insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir, the authorities of different security agencies had introduced Yoga and Art of Living to help the security forces to come out of the mental stress.

However, it had very little impact as security forces as the suicide rates among Army Officers is rising. In a number of cases, security force jawans killed their colleagues and officers during the past one year.
