'Baisakhi' celebrated in Punjab
Chandigarh, Apr 14 (UNI) The festival of 'Baisakhi' was celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety in Punjab with a large number of devotees thronging the Gurdwaras in the state to offer prayers.
Devotees thronged the Golden Temple at Amritsar to pay obeisance at the shrine and listen to 'kirtan'. They also took a dip in the 'Sarowar' of the shrine.
Devotees also paid obeisance at the historic shrines of Anandpur Sahib where the tenth Sikh Guru, Gobind Singh laid the foundation of the 'Khalsa' on this day. There was also a rush of devotees at Takht Damdama Sahib and at other historic shrines in Muktsar, Fatehgarh Sahib and Goindwal Sahib.
'Langars' were also organised all along highways and roads in the state. The festival also marks the beginning of the wheat harvesting season in Punjab.
