Haryana to construct 4 dams on Ghaggar and tributaries
Chandigarh, Apr 13 (UNI) The Haryana Government has decided to construct four dams on river Ghaggar and its tributaries in the state to ensure optimum utilisation of water and its conservation in view of growing demand for water.
This was stated by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda while laying the foundation stone of the much delayed Rs 118 crore Koshalya Dam over river Koshalya opposite HMT complex in Pinjore near here today.
The other three dams would be constructed at Diwanwala, Dangrana and Chhamla.
Mr Hooda regretted that during the last 25 to 30 years, every Chief Minister used to talk about the construction of the Koshalya dam project, but it was never taken up. It was his Government which now initiated its construction and it would be completed by September next year so as to provide drinking water to the areas of Panchkula and Pinjore.
The 34 meter high Koshalya dam would have a catchment area of 77 sq km and reservoir of 1.06 sq km.
