Girl dies due to doctor's 'negligence' in TN

Chennai, Apr 13 (UNI) Tension prevailed at Besant Nagar in the city today following death of a girl at a private hospital, which came under attack from the locals alleging negligence on the part of the doctors.

Police said the girl Selvi (20), daughter of a construction worker, died at the hospital this morning after she was re-admitted within four hours of her discharge.

The girl, after undergoing treatment, was discharged around 2330 hrs last night. After returning home, she swooned at around 0300 hrs and was rushed back to the hospital, where she was declared dead an hour later.

Locals and the family members of the deceased alleged that the girl had died due to the negligent attitude of the doctors and resorted to a road roko, demanding action against the hospital.

After refusing to take possession of the body, they also gave vent to their ire against the hospital by pelting it with stones, damaging some of the window panes.

As tension mounted, senior police officials rushed to the spot, pacified the agitators and restored order. They also convinced the family members to take possession of the body.
