Do not grow cucurbits in net houses: Expert
Ludhiana, Apr 13 (UNI) Agri scitentists have appealed to the vegetable growers not to grow cucurbits which include cucumbers in net houses.
Head of Punjab Agricultural University's (PAU), Deprtament of Vegetable Crops, D S Cheema said farmers should grow tomato, capsicum and brinjal in net-house and not cucurbits.
While pointing to reports that farmers have started growing cucumbers is net houses, Dr Cheema said that cucurbits are cross-pollinated crops and their fruit setting takes place only through the activity of pollinators such as insects and honey-bees.
Since, there is no entry of insects in the net houses, fruit setting does not occur in cucurbits due to lack of pollinators.
