3 CPI (M) supporters killed by Maoists in Salboni

Salboni, Apr 13 (UNI) Maoists today gunned down three CPI(M) activists, including a party branch secretary, in Garhmal village under Salboni Police Station.

Midnapore Sub-divisional Officer Ashok Saha said the trio were working on a National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme meant for jobless labourers of the village.

The SDO said about 15 masked, armed men had kidnapped Jugal Murmu, Nabakumar Murmu, both CPI (M) supporters) and Mukul Tewari, CPI (M) branch secretary and held them in a nearby forest.

Police later found their bodies in the forest. All of them bore gunshot wounds. The SDO said the accused were suspected to be Maoists.

Earlier today, in a separate incident in Murshidabad district of the state, another CPI(M) worker was shot dead by unidentified men at Khagra area under Behrampore police station.

Police said a few men entered the shop of Srijan Mandal, a federation member of the ruling party, at about 1130 hrs and shot him dead. Mandal died on the spot.
