NBL applies for Jatropha patents

Hyderabad, Apr 12 (UNI) The city-based Nandan Biomatrix Limited (NBL) today announced that it has applied for four patents for Jatropha.

The four patents were in the process of developing Jatropha Curcas, Hybrids for high oleic content, high seed yield, high oil content and inter-specific hybrid, a press release here said.

The company was in the process to achieve complete genomics of Jatropha curcas along with crop modelling. It facilitates the company for simulation and validation of soil and climatic parameters required for Jatropha plantation across the globe.

NBL's Managing Director V Bhaskar Rao said, ''We believe that unless the profitability of Jatropha as a commercial crop was ascertained through genetic improvement and protection, we cannot aim for a larger area under bio-diesel plantations. Hence, our focus since the last four years was on scientific study of Jatropha to make it the most preferred crop for marginal soils in India and abroad.'' UNI VA KVV 1630
