CPI(ML) blames UPA Government for price rise
New Delhi, Apr 12 (UNI) The CPI(ML) today held the UPA government responsible for the soaring inflation, and announced that it will launch a fortnight-long nationwide campaign against the price rise from April 15.
It also condemned the statements of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister P Chidamabaram and other UPA functionaries for their statements that the price rise was a global phenomenon.
''Such statements are highly deplorable attempts by the government to wash its hand off the responsibility for the enormous and life-threatening burden of price hike imposed on the poor who are already battling hunger,'' CPI(ML) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya said in a statement.
After the agrarian crisis, he said the price hike was the most ''glaring expression'' of the impact of the Government's policies of globalisation on the lives of the poor.
The CPI(ML) demanded that the Government take certain urgent emergency measures to contain the impact of inflation.
The party also asked the central government to clarify its stand in the light of four separate verdicts issued by a four-member Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court on the OBC quota in higher education.
