Three UTPs injured in Meghalaya

hillong, Apr 11 (UNI) Three prisoners were injured, one of them critically, in a clash with inmates inside a district Jail in Meghalaya, jail officials said today.

According to Superintendent of Shillong District Jail P Warjri, the scuffle broke out yesterday after two undertrial prisoners(UTPs), Khrawbok Lyngdoh Mawnai and Aman Boro, fought with each other over Rs five, which Mawnai claimed that the latter owed him.

Boro suffered severe head injuries, and is admitted in a critical condition in a private hospital, the jail officials said.

As soon as the incident erupted, three UTPs - - Justine Dkhar, Bishnu Basumatry and Ishashak Daimari -- also fought among each other causing injuries to two of them, Mr Warjri said.

He added that Basumatry had been forwarded to Shillong government hospital, while Daimari is nursing injuries inside the jail hospital.

However, the Jail Superintendent said, an inquiry into the matter was already on to ascertain the cause of the incident.

Besides that, he said, an FIR had also been lodged against the five inmates involved in the incident.
