Indian,Lankan fishermen clash

Chennai, Apr 11 (UNI) Six Indian fishermen were injured in a clash with their Lankan counterparts in the mid-sea when the latter illegally entered the Indian waters.

Police said the local fishermen, hailing from Kasimedu in North Chennai, detained the ten Lankan fishermen and handed them over to local police today.

The clash took place in the deep sea bordering the international waters when the Lankan fishermen attacked the Indian fishermen, yesterday.

Four of the injured were identified as Kamal, Tirupathi, Madhivanan and Ranjith.

When the clash was taking place, a few Tamil fishermen informed a group of their counterparts fishing nearby. They, in turn, chased the Lankans and seized two of their boats and forcibly detained 11 of them and brought them to Chennai shores today.

The injured fishermen were admitted to a hosptial and police were holding an inquiry with the detained fishermen.

The Lankan fishermen were identified as Jenini, Asandonado, Anilsalon, Sadarvan, Jutenishant Donado, Aneesthan, Nimalgiri, Kiuttandonado, Ivanithdonado, Maganthar Donado and Mathew Donado.
