Govt to implement three pc reservation for handicapped

Puducherry, Apr 11 (UNI) The Puducherry administration would soon implement three per cent reservation for handicapped people in government jobs, Welfare Minister, M Kandasamy told the legislative assembly today.

Replying to a question, Mr Kandasamy said he had two meetings with officials in this regard and six months time was sought for implementation.

The minister said 15325 handicapped people had availed the financial assistance so far from the Social Welfare Department.

To a charge from the members that the number of handicapped people in the Union Territory was going up every year, Chief Minister N Rangasamy, intervened and said as far as Puducherry was concerned, even people with 40 per cent disability was being included in the list of handicapped, whereas in other states people with 75 per cent or above disability would only be included in the handicaped list.

Obviously, the number of handicapped in Puducherry was on the increase, Mr Rangasamy added.
