APCC welcomes SC verdict on reservation
Hyderabad, Apr 11 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today hailed the Supreme Court verdict, upholding the 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in higher educational institutions.
Addressing a press conference here, APCC president D Srinivas said, ''the APCC wholeheartedly welcomes the verdict.'' Regarding the exclusion of creamy layer from its ambit, Mr Srinivas said, ''I don't want to comment on the Supreme Court's judgement on creamy layer. Financial position is not the criteria for providing reservations. Reservations are meant to uplift the downtrodden,'' he added.
The UPA Government and the Congress should hold discussions to bring the creamy layer under reservation ambit.
