12-hr Cong sponsored Birbhum bandh peaceful
Birbhum, Apr 11 (UNI) The 12-hour Birbhum district bandh called by the Congress, demanding arrest of a CPI(M) member, ended peacefully today.
The Congress supporters had alleged that party worker Bandhu Mistry (58) was killed by some CPI(M) members.
Party district president Nihar Dutta had accused CPI(M) MP from the district Ram Chandra Dom of killing Mr Mistry on Wednesday last at Mohammed Bazar area here.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Laxmi Narayan Meena told UNI '' the bandh was total and peaceful.'' All educational institutions remained closed, excluding those conducting examinations, the DSP said adding bus services were disrupted while train services were normal.
Mr Meena further said that about nine CPI(M) workers have been arrested in this regard so far.
