YSR approves new medical college in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Apr 10 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy has agreed to the proposal of setting up a new teaching hospital-cum-medical college on the premises of the Chest Hospital at Erragadda in the heart of the city, at an estimated cost of Rs 180 crore.

The Chief Minister had ordered the construction work to start soon after demolishing the old buildings on the premises. The Chest Hospital facilities would be shifted to a new location near the old city, for which a new complex would be constructed.

The new multi-speciality teaching hospital would be a 750-bedded hospital and the medical college attached to it would have 150 students intake, to start with.

The decisions were taken at a detailed review meeting, chaired by the Chief Minister, yesterday.

Dr Reddy said the construction should have a unique architectural plan and the hospital should have all super specialities.

The Chief Minister also discussed the progress of work regarding other new medical colleges at Srikakulam, Adilabad, Ongole and Kadapa.
