TN House hails SC order on 27 per cent quota
Chennai, Apr 10 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Assembly today hailed the Supreme Court order, clearing the decks for implementation of 27 per cent Reservation for Backward Classes in centrally run higher educational institutions like IITs and IIMs.
Members, cutting across party lines, expressed happiness by thumping the desks when leader of the House and Finance Minister K Anbazhgan informed them that a five Judge Constitution Bench had upheld the 27 per cent reservation in these institutions.
Giving details of the much awaited order Mr Anbazhagan said he was sharing his happiness with the members.
After the House adjourned for the day, members of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), which was at the forefront in the struggle to protect 27 per cent quota, distributed sweets and celebrated the verdict.
