Chennai, Apr 10 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Hyderabad-based AMR Constructions for setting up a multi-product Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Nanguneri in the Southern Tirunelveli district.
The MoU for the SEZ, to be set up with an investment of Rs 15,000 crore, was signed between Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) Chairman and Managing Director S Ramasundaram and AMR Constructions representatives A Mahesh Reddy and P Ravikuamr Reddy in the presence of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at the State Secretariat.
An official release here said this would be the first multi-product SEZ in the State and it would generate 70,000 jobs and pave way for the economic development of the southern districts.
Though the foundation stone for the SEZ was laid by Mr Karunanidhi in February 2001 when he was the then Chief Minister, the project was put on hold by the previous AIADMK regime.
