Three killed, 40 injured in hills of Assam

Guwahati, Apr 10 (UNI) Violence today rocked two hill districts of Assam as a powerful bomb detonated at Howraghat of Karbi Anglong district injuring 40 people, while three were killed in gunfire between Dimasa militants and security forces in the North Cachar hills.

Official sources said 40 people were injured, 18 of them seriously, when a cycle bomb ripped through a market in Howraghat town. The suspected Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF) detonated the bomb at 1245 hrs in the busy Howraghat vegetable market on Netaji Subhash Road.

The seriously injured had been referred to Nagaon civil hospital.

In the neighbouring North Cachar hills, three people, including two Dimasa militants, were killed in an encounter at Diring in Dihamalai area.

According to army sources, troops of 57 Mountain Division, operating under 3 corps, killed two Dimasa militants in an encounter in Miyungkhor area of NC hills. Heavy exchange of fire ensued between the and an elderly person died in the crossfire. He was identified as Nelungbe Zeme.
