Sugarcane farmer commits suicide in K'taka
Bijapur, Apr 10 (UNI) Unable to repay the mounting debts yet another sugarcane farmer committed suicide by consuming pesticide in Sasabala village in this district today.
Police said Bhimappa Annaraya Bagalura had borrowed money from banks and private money lenders but his sugarcane crop could not be harvested for the last two years.
He could not get the compensation announced by the government last year as his name was not included in the list by the local administration.
As money lenders continued to pressurise the farmer for repayment, Bhimappa decided to commit suicide. He went to his fields in the morning and consumed pesticide.
