Security ''beefed'' up in Jammu on Sonia's visit

Jammu, Apr 10 (UNI) The winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir has been thrown under tight ''security'' cover ahead of Congress president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi's visit on April 12 here, official sources said today.

Sources said additional deployment of troops have been made at the venue where Ms Gandhi would be addressing a women convention.

''Strict directions have been given to the security forces and the police parties in their respective jurisdictions to remain more vigilant,'' sources told UNI rpt UNI patrolling has been beefed up while nakkas have been tightened.

The UPA chairperson is coming to Jammu to address a women convention to kick start the election campaign, sources said.

However, Prime Minister Manmohan singh is also arriving here on a two-day visit on April 25, sources said asserting, ''Dr Singh would address the first convocation of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) at Katra on his arrival and on April 26, he would inaugurate the largest bridge over Chenab at Akhnoor and also visit Dul Hasti Hydro Electric Power Project in Kishtwar district.''
