Railways will scale new heights to become world's No. One: Jena
New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) Asserting that Indian Railways would reach insurmountable heights to become the world's number one, Railway Board Chairman K.C. Jena today appreciated the passion and hard work of the 1.4-million-strong workforce of the organisation and exhorted them to scale new heights of glory and progress.
Inaugurating the 53rd Railway Week celebrations at Rail Bhavan here, Mr Jena said that in the recent past, all railway employees had contributed their mite in achieving the 'Turnaround of Indian Railways', which is a record cash surplus of Rs 25,000 crore.
''The image of Indian Railways has improved tremendously at the international level and various studies are afoot in academic institutions all around the globe to study its spectacular turnaround,'' he said.
Mr Jena said 'Railway Week Celebrations' is an occasion when we recollect our glorious past and re-dedicate ourselves for the future in order to keep the Indian Railways flag flying high.
''Indian Railways will reach insurmountable heights and would be second to none,'' he added.
On the occasion, the Railway Board Chairman gave away shields, merit certificates and cash awards to the meritorious staffers and sportspersons.
The Running Efficiency Shield, merit certificates and cash awards of Rs. 4,000 each for maintaining high standards of efficiency, prompt disposal of cases and punctuality were jointly shared by ERB-II and E(G) branches of the Railway Board.
In addition, four more branches were given merit certificates and cash awards of Rs 2,000 each.
In all, a total of 105 officers and staff of Railway Board were given merit certificates and cash prizes of Rs 2,000 each for their outstanding service during the year 2007-08.
Artists and outstanding sports persons of Railway Board who excelled inter-Railway, inter-ministry and All India Civil Services competitions were also felicitated with cash award, appreciation letters and souvenirs on the occasion.
Congratulating those who had received awards and shields for the outstanding performance during the year, Mr Jena said their efficiency would not only encourage all others to emulate but also work harder to achieve the goals.
