Govt employees held for attempt on picketing Secretariate
Puducherry, Apr 10 (UNI) As many as 283 employees affiliated to the Confederation of Puducherry State Government Employees Association, including 34 women, were arrested when they attempted to picket the Chief Secretariate here to press their demands.
Maintaining that the sixth pay commission recommendations would affect the group C and D employees, filling up of vaccant posts and removal of pay anomalises, the employees, who marched from three different points joined at the Nehru and Gandhi street junction and proceeded to the Chief Secretariate.
However, police prevented them on Ambur Saalai and arrested them.
Meanwhile, two groups of DMDK workers held demonstrations, demanding the immediate implementation of the Hoganekkal drinking water project and curbing of price rise among other things, infront of the head post office and ahead the district Collector's office.
The members of the Construction Workers Welfare Board also took out a procession and staged a demonstration demanding the full implimentation of the welfare board and enhancement of welfare measures. Police prevented them at the mission street from proceeding to the Legislative Assembly.
