Commonwealth to restore Pak membership in May

Islamabad, Apr 10 : The Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) will meet on May 7 and 8 in London with the objective of re-inducting Pakistan into the Commonwealth, diplomatic sources have said.

Sources said Commonwealth members have decided to restore Pakistan's membership following the establishment of a democratically elected government. A formal announcement would be made by the CMAG in London. On November 10, the CMAG had given a 10-day ultimatum to Pakistan to lift emergency rule or face suspension of its membership.

The Daily Times quoted sources as saying that some leading members of the organisation, including the United Kingdom (UK), had assured Pakistan that its membership would be restored.
