400 booked for instigating communal violence

Etah, Apr 10 (UNI) At least 400 people, including former Nagar Palika Parishad president were booked for instigating communal violence in Gunjdudwara town here today.

The issue snowballed when two groups clashed with each other over demolition of an ancient temple wall yesterday.

The mob created ruckus at police station besides, vandalising police property, Senior Police Superintendent Sushil Kumar said.

Several police vehicles were also torched during the clash, following which the police resorted to cane charging.

A case had been registered against 400 people for disrupting communal harmony and a named FIR had been lodged against three people for vandalising the temple wall.

Besides, PAC had been deployed to bring the situation under control and senior police and administrative officials were maintaining a strict vigil to avoid any fresh violence.

Meanwhile, the vandalised temple structure had been re-erected.

However, tension prevailed in the town.
