US citizen arrested for rape attempt on compatriot

Bangalore, Apr 9 (UNI) Police have arrested a 52-year-old US citizen on charges of attempted rape on an American woman at a hotel here last night.

Police said the arrested, identified as Alfred Larry, represented a US based company and was in the city on an official trip. He had been staying at the hotel since April seven.

Last night, he barged into a room in which a 33-year-old software engineer of another US-based company, also on official visit, was staying.

The woman had kept the door of her room ajar, after she returned to the hotel from work.

The man barged in, bolted the door from inside and tried to sexually assault her. He also allegedly afflicted injuries on her person.

When the woman shouted for help, the hotel staff broke the door open and rescued her. They handed over the man to the police.

Larry was produced before a court today. He has been charged under sections 448, 354, 376, 511 of IPC, police added.
