Parminder upsets top seed Jaanesh
Chandigarh, Apr 9 (UNI) Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association trainee Parminder Kaur shocked top seed Jaanesh Kaur 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 to enter the semi-final of the girls Under-16 singles in the All India Tennis Association Super Series Tennis Tournament being held at the CLTA Tennis Stadium here.
Parminder played the match of her life as she outplayed Jaanesh in the first set. Parminder forced Jaanesh to commit too many unforced errors. Parminder constantly moved her around the court and attacking the loose ball and was clearly the better player of the match.
Jaanesh did not vary her tactics much in the first set.
However in the second Jaanesh played some sensible tennis keeping many more balls on court and using that all important top spin to level the match.
Parminder with an excellent baseline game and strong first serves, matched her more fancied opponent in the third set 3-4.
In the final set, a tired Parminder came up with some excellent running forehand winners to even the score 4-4. Parminder up 5-4 wrapped up the match with some excellent return of serves.
Meanwhile, Ajay Yadav from the CLTA Chart programme caused a another upset beating top seed Surya Pavan 6-4, 6-2 to enter the boys Under-14 singles semi-finals.
Ajay also upset seventh seed Surya Sirasala to enter the boys singles 16 semis too. Ajay was a couple of notches better than Pavan who was totally outclassed by some big serving and baseline winners from Ajay.
