Govt to construct tenements for poor: Rangasamy
Puducherry, Apr 9 (UNI) The Puducherry administration propose to construct tenements for poor people in the Union Territory, Chief Minister N Rangasamy told the Legislative Assembly today.
Replying to a question, he said the administration propose to construct a tenement at a cost of Rs 30 crore in Ozhukarai constituency besides group of houses in Pethichettipet and Karuvadikuppam.
To another question, the Chief Minister said the administration was taking steps to provide red colour ration cards to the eligible for which a survey to identify the BPL families was on.
The number of red colour ration cards had surged to 1.40 lakh from 90,000 and those left out would also be given. Also priority would be given to destitutes, rickshaw pullers and labourers, he added.
DMK member R Siva, who raised the question alleged that the government had constructed tenements for the BPL families and it was not fair to deny them the red colour ration cards citing that they were living in pucca houses.
