Adhir, five others acquitted in murder case
Berhampore, Apr 9 (UNI) A fast track court in Murshidabad district has acquitted Congress MP Adhir Chowdhury and five others from attempt to murder charges for lack of evidence.
District sessions judge Somnath Banerjee acquitted them yesterday.
Congress and CPI(M) supporters clashed during the election to Bhagirathi Co-operative Milk Union on January 6, 2005, in which two CPI(M) supporters, Mujibar Rahaman and Debasish Ghosal, were injured and admitted to hospital.
Rahaman had filed a case against Mr Chowdhury, the district Congress president, and his five associates for which the MP had received bail.
The MP was on bail in another murder case, that of a restauranteer and his son in Berhampore town in 2006.
He was given bail by Calcutta High Court in 2007.
