TN Govt constitutes Forest Commission
Chennai, Apr 8 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government today announced constitution of a Forest Commission, the first of its kind in the country, to draw the forest policy and other schemes.
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who ordered the constitution of the Commission, appointed retired bureaucrat P V Rajaraman as its Chairman and Tiruvalluvar University Vice-Chancellor L Kannan as its member-secretary.
The Commission, besides drawing the forest policy, would review the forest laws, keeping in mind the interest of the people. It would also examine the working conditions of the forest department personnel and make recommendations for their welfare, an official release here said.
It would also recommend measures to maintain good relations between the general public and the forest department personnel.
The Commission would finalise its recommendations within a year after consulting the general public, forest officials, tribals and voluntary organisations, the release said.
