Rono Hills, Apr 8 (UNI) Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Vice-Chancellor Professor V N Rajesekharan Pillai today called for tapping the potential of the educated youth for achieving academic targets.

Addressing the Ninth convocation of the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) here, Prof Pillai underscored the need of making education the channel of assisting and uplifting humanity at large.

He urged all the students, who were conferred with various degrees on the occasion, to contribute to the worldwide campaign to achieve ''education for all''.

Prof Pillai said education was really intended to cultivate the mind and help people meet the crisis of national life and urged all the universities to become centers of active work and develop as communities of shared values and experiences.

He also called upon the teachers to instill in their students scientific temper and rational approach.

While RGU chancellor Prof Mrinal Miri in his address termed the convocation as a reminder of the seriousness of education, VC Prof K C Belliappa exhorted the faculty members to work dedicatedly to make the central varsity a centre of academic excellence.

The university also conferred D Litt(Honoris causa) to Prof Andre Beteille of Delhi University and Dr Indira Goswami, an eminent litterateur from Assam.
