AP to form Commission for speedy rehabilitation
Hyderabad, Apr 8 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekahra Reddy today said the Government would constitute a separate Commission to speed up 'Relief and Rehabilitation' of those displaced by irrigation projects and complete land acquisition.
A senior official would be appointed as Commissioner, Relief and Rehabilitation, who will also function as an Ex-officio Secretary to the Government.
While reviewing progress of the irrigation projects construction with the officials concerned here, Dr Reddy said the Commisison would exclusively look after the relief and rehabilitation of the displaced under the projects. The Commission has the responsibility to speed up the works with the help of irrigation and other concerned departments, he added.
The Government had spent Rs 12,000 crore out of Rs 13,000 crore budget outlay in 2007-08 for irrigation projects under 'Jalayagnam' programme. The Government received Rs 980 crore as central grant out of Rs 1297 crore under Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP), an official release said.
