AP Govt to introduce English from Class One

Hyderabad, Apr 8 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today said English would be introduced from Class one in all Government schools from the coming academic year and an English medium section would be started parallel to Telugu medium from sixth standard in the State.

Reviewing the performance of the State School Education Department with the officials concerned here, Dr Reddy said 6,500 Government High Schools, out of 10,500, would be strengthened by constructing buildings, laboratories, compound walls and sports complexes.

Stating that the Government had alloted Rs 1000 crore to strengthen the schools in 2008-09, the Chief Minister directed the officials to complete the formalities this month and to start work soon, an official release said.
