Woman dies on being hit by CRPF vehicle, local mob assaults jawans
Kolkata, Apr 06 (UNI) A woman was killed when her motorbike was hit by a CRPF vehicle at Kankurgachi area in the northern part of the city this afternoon, making it the second such incident of rash driving since the bus accident on April 4 claimed at least 20 lives.
Police sources said the accident occurred when a convoy of four CRPF vehicles was moving through the area and one of the vehicles hit the motorcycle, killing the woman on the spot, while the driver of the motorbike has been admitted to a local hospital in serious condition.
Immediately, an irate mob attacked the vehicles and assaulted the driver of the vehicle that hit the motorbike. The mob vandalised the CRPF vehicles and beat up the jawans. The locals have barred them from escaping.
Local eye-witnesses alleged that the four CRPF vehicles were being driven rashly as the drivers were attempting to overtake each other.
The Rapid Action Force(RAF) and police personnel have been rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control, police added. The situation is tense with traffic coming to a complete halt in the area.
Earlier, at least 20 people were killed and 25 injured, some of them seriously, when a crowded private bus veered off the busy VIP road and plunged into Kestopur canal near the city airport on April 4.
