Lucknow, Apr 6: Commenting on the change in the colour of Uttar Pradesh traffic police dress recently, main Opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) today termed the change as 'unnecessary.' ''It is just a stunt to promote the colour of the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government. Therefore, Chief Minister Mayawati has changed the 'white' dress of the traffic police to 'blue' in the State,'' SP State unit spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said here.

Besides, various road signs had been changed against the standards into blue colour, which was a clear violation of the Indian Road Congress, the SP leader added. Apart from this, Public Work Department (PWD) sign board and various railings were painted with blue across the city. Now, one can even get confused with the party's volunteer force and the State traffic police, as both are dressed in blue, Mr Chaudhary noted.

From April 1, the state government had changed the dress of the traffic police from white shirt and pants to white shirt and blue pants, as the white colour gets dirty with pollution very soon.
